Our adventure began with a shared love for the outdoors and a bold step into something new. Iric brings deep roots to Sapphire, NC, known by many for his work shaping the town and his genuine, helpful spirit. Dawn is a lifelong gardener, painter, and photographer who fell in love with these mountains from the moment she arrived.
Together, we built Paw Paw Creations from a dream of blending creativity with connection—creating original yard art right here at home for neighbors who want their gardens to feel truly special. Every animal, colorful sculpture, and pond is crafted by our own hands, whether with paintbrushes or tools in motion. We enjoy guiding visitors of all experience levels across our six acres, always ready for a friendly conversation or to help bring new ideas to life. Community and creativity come together here in every corner of our space—where local mountain know-how meets artistry and heart.
About Iric Thomas
Iric Thomas is a familiar and beloved face in the Sapphire, North Carolina community, where he’s spent over 30 years working, building, and making lasting connections. After more than 25 years in heavy construction, he’s now following his heart—pouring his energy into organic gardening and creating one-of-a-kind, handcrafted pieces.
Around town, many know him as “the mountain man,” a name that reflects both his rugged skill and his deep love for the land. His impact on the community runs so deep that a park pavilion was even named in his honor. Through Paw Paw Creations, Iric brings that same care, creativity, and down-to-earth spirit into everything he makes, especially his thoughtfully designed birdhouses built to shelter and protect wildlife in the mountains.
